For the second consecutive year, Clackamas ESD was honored to collaborate with Clackamas Community College to host a December legislative breakfast on the CCC campus. More than 80 K-12 and community college students and education leaders had the chance to talk informally with Congresswoman-elect Janelle Bynum and eight other locally elected state legislators and legislative staff members about education challenges and opportunities, the day-to-day realities in our schools, and our shared commitment to supporting children and families in as many ways as possible.

Our regional preK-12 legislative priorities for 2025 center in four areas:

  • Support Gov. Kotek’s proposed $11.36 billion State School Fund appropriation as a foundational step in maintaining current levels of service to students in our schools
  • Address unfunded mandates by providing added appropriations to cover district costs
  • Address the special education funding gap by raising the funding cap and fully reimbursing high-cost disability expenses
  • Support full funding of federally mandated early intervention and special education services for preschool children

Our sincere thanks to all elected officials, students and school district staff who took a couple of precious hours to engage in these important conversations. We look forward to collaborating with legislators in the months ahead to make decisions that will provide all Oregon kids with the opportunities they deserve.
