Sara Snow and Brett Walker have been named as assistant directors of Clackamas ESD’s early learning team. Between the two of them, they will lead the largest team at the agency, serving more than 1,800 preschool children and their families in Clackamas County with a range of services.

The new role is a promotion for Snow, who joined CESD in 2018 as early learning program coordinator. In her new role as assistant director for early childhood special education, she will oversee the team providing direct special education services to pre-K children throughout Clackamas County. Previously, Snow served as an assistant special education director in northwest Colorado, overseeing special education services and programs for children birth to 21. Prior to that, she spent 13 years working in elementary schools as a special education and general education teacher. She is passionate about creating inclusive opportunities for all children, and collaborating with others to remove barriers to make this possible. Snow earned a BA in elementary education from Alma College and an MEd in special education from Wayne State University, and completed her initial administrative licensure program at Colorado State University.

Walker will begin his new role as assistant director for early learning programs, early childhood on Aug. 3. In this position, he will lead the team that provides child care resource and referral services throughout Clackamas County, and manages the Head Start to Success program. He comes to CESD from the Oregon Department of Education, where he has spent the past seven years as P-3 alignment specialist in the department’s early learning division. His work focused on strengthening connections between early care and education providers and school districts, collaborating with Oregon’s 16 early learning hubs, and supporting successful transitions for incoming kindergarteners. Previously, Walker spent six years with the Boston Public Schools Office of Family & Student Engagement, where he worked with elementary school principals and teachers to engage families as partners in student learning. He is a graduate of Linfield College, and holds an MA in teaching from Boston University.

Both Snow and Walker will report to CESD Assistant Superintendent Ewan Brawley, who assumed oversight of early learning programs in July 2020.
