Clackamas ESD is working to establish a Native American student consortium in Clackamas County dedicated to fostering an inclusive, supportive environment where Native American and Alaska Native students are encouraged to excel academically while staying connected to their cultural roots.
The vision of the consortium is to pool resources and centralize efforts to meet the unique educational and culturally related academic needs of Native American and Alaska Native students.
In order to launch the consortium, we need eligible students to submit the ED 506 Form today so we may apply for funding for the consortium and its activities via the Federal Title VI Indian Education Grant. Funding for this grant is allocated by how many eligible students are part of the consortium.
One of the Clackamas Native American Student Consortium’s goals will be to organize more Indigenous cultural events like these incredible celebrations hosted by a partnership between Clackamas ESD, Native Wellness Institute, and North Clackamas Schools in 2023.
Clackamas Native American Student Consortium activities may include:
Working as a consortium will provide space for collaboration with community partners to create opportunities for Native American and Alaska Native students to gain understanding of Native communities, languages, tribal histories, traditions, and cultures. This regional approach will also allow for professional learning and consultation opportunities to support districts in effectively supporting their Native American and Alaska Native students and families.
If you are the parent or guardian of a Native American or Alaska Native student from one of the consortium district partners listed below and you would like to be part of the Consortium Parent Committee, please email Angie Kautz from Clackamas ESD for details. The committee will meet 3 times a year.
Potential consortium partner districts
Canby, Colton, Gladstone, Lake Oswego, Molalla River, Oregon City and West Linn-Wilsonville school districts*
*Please note that North Clackamas School District already has this grant in place and would not be an official member of the consortium, but will be collaborative partners in the regional activities
