This November, we’re excited to have a unique way to celebrate American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month: with a special mini-documentary that showcases two regional cultural celebrations.
Last summer, Clackamas ESD was proud to partner with the Native Wellness Institute and the North Clackamas Schools on two special events highlighting Native American culture: a powwow and a coastal jam. Now, we’ve collaborated with filmmakers Austyn Steelman and Tomás Karmelo Amaya to create Culture and Education: An Intersection of Indigenous Excellence. This short film uses last summer’s events as centerpieces to spotlight the importance of keeping precious Native history, traditions and culture alive and flourishing.
The summer events and documentary production were made possible by a generous grant from the Oregon Department of Education as part of the American Indian/Alaska Native Student Success Plan.
