“I’m eternally grateful for the dual-immersion program in Canby School District, because without it, I would not have the opportunities and confidence I have today.” -Elaissa Martinez, pictured in front. Elaissa, a migrant student, plans to pursue a career as a police agent, where she believes her bilingualism will help her succeed.
Congratulations to the “Class of 2019!” We’re incredibly proud of the effort we know educators, students and families put toward this critical benchmark. In a particularly special celebration, our region’s Migrant Education Program (MEP) celebrated graduating seniors. MEP ensures that migrant children fully benefit from public education, even through frequent moves due to their parents’ jobs in agriculture, fishing, lumber and similar industries. Clackamas ESD supports the success of 10% of Oregon’s migrant students by recruiting students eligible for support, training educators, and connecting students to support services that will minimize disruption and keep them engaged.
This year, 79 seniors who are in the migrant program will be graduating. Canby School District hosted the celebration, which included students from Canby, Oregon City, Molalla and Gladstone.
